DESCRIPTION:Since 1988\, Creating Change has generated opportunities for many thousands of committed people from around the country (and indeed\, from around the world) to develop and hone their skills\, celebrate victories\, build community\, and be inspired by visionaries of our LGBTQ+ movement and allied movements for justice and equity. \nAttendees—nearly of third of whom identify as transgender or gender non-conforming\, and over half as people of color—learn about the latest in research and strategies to secure LGBTQ+ rights\, network to acquire best practices and new teaching techniques\, and always come away from the experience feeling encouraged\, inspired\, motivated\, challenged\, and moved. \nWe are building a future where everyone is free to be themselves in every aspect of their lives. Today\, despite all the progress we have made to end discrimination\, millions of LGBTQ+ people face barriers in every aspect of their lives: in housing\, employment\, healthcare\, retirement\, and basic human rights. These barriers must go. \nThrough Creating Change and other advocacy programs\, the National LGBTQ Task Force is training and mobilizing thousands of activists across the nation to deliver a world where you can be you.

DESCRIPTION:Join Thinking Cap Theatre for a professional staged reading of A Late Snow\, the 1974 play that launched the playwriting career of lesbian playwright Jane Chambers–and that also cost Chambers her day job as a soap opera writer. \n  \nAbout The Play\nIn this two-act comedy\, a college English professor finds herself trapped in a snowbound cabin with her current lover\, her former lover\, her very first lover\, and her future partner. \nOne of the first plays with positive lesbian characters to be professionally produced\, A Late Snow was a critical and commercial success\, but its explicit lesbian content thwarted plans for a Broadway production and led to Chambers being fired from her job on the soap opera Search for Tomorrow. \nTickets include a talkback and reception with refreshments. \nA Late Snow is made possible by a joint grant from The Our Fund Foundation and The Community Foundation of Broward County. This program is also presented in partnership with Sunshine Cathedral and the Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts.
