Our History

Recognizing that a concentration of LGBTQ wealth exists in the region for the next several decades due to the dense LGBTQ population base in South Florida, a LGBTQ foundation was envisioned as a means of capturing and preserving LGBTQ financial resources to create a livable community for this and future generations in South Florida.

One hundred individuals, couples, and families signed on as First Hundred Funders with three-year financial commitments of $4,500 – $45,000 to support Our Fund’s infrastructure and initial granting.

Since its founding, The Foundation has attracted preeminent community leaders to serve on its Board of Directors and lead the organization with co-founders Chuck Loring and Coleman Prewitt serving as the first two Chairs of the Board.  In 2020, Scott Bennett became the first non-founding Board Chair to serve in the role. 

In 2015, founding President and CEO Tony Timiraos retired, and David Jobin was brought on as his successor. Mark Blaylock, who joined Tony as his Finance Director in 2015, was named CFO in 2018 to accommodate the financial growth of The Foundation.

With nearly $25M in assets in 2023, The Foundation ranks as one of the largest LGBTQ funders in the country repeatedly in Funders for LGBTQ Issues annual report and is the only LGBTQ-specific community foundation in the Southeastern United States.
