
Christopher H. Bates has been in public service for his 40-plus-year career. His professional experiences include working in local, state, and federal governments and the not-for-profit community.
He is most proud of the more than 30 years he worked in HIV/AIDS services and policy. In 1991, Christopher served as Executive Director of the White Title II Washington DC Care Resources and Services Consortium. In 1997, Christopher moved to the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) Office of HIV/AIDS Policy, where he served in several positions, which included 11 years as the Director of the Office of HIV/AIDS Policy.
After retiring from the HHS in December 2013, Christopher served as Director of the Men’s Health and Wellness at the State of Florida Department of Health, Broward County, between 2014 and 2016. In the community, he has also served on the Board of Directors of the Pride Center at Equality Park and Health Point.
Christopher was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Miami, Florida. He received his BGS degree from the University of Michigan and his M.P.A. from Southeastern University.
