Alexandra Breton, Justin Flippen Memorial Scholarship recipient
WILTON MANORS – The Our Fund Foundation proudly announces that Alexandra Breton, a graduate student pursuing a degree in Political Science at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), has been awarded the sixth annual Justin Flippen Memorial Scholarship.
Established to honor the life and legacy of Justin Flippen, former mayor of Wilton Manors, the scholarship celebrates his lifelong dedication to public service, civic leadership and advocacy. Following his unexpected passing from a brain aneurysm in 2020, Flippen’s impact continues to be felt throughout South Florida and beyond. As FAU’s first openly gay Student Body President, he led with the belief that government should always serve its people first.
A Future Leader in Public Service
Breton has distinguished herself through academic excellence, resilience, and a deep commitment to justice and public service. She earned top marks in both U.S. Supreme Court and Research Design courses and has demonstrated a strong ability to connect academic study with practical legal experience, particularly through her work in immigration law.
As she prepares to complete her degree and return to law school, Breton plans to pursue a career focused on ensuring fair and just outcomes for individuals navigating complex legal systems.
“I’ve had the pleasure of teaching Alexandra and she truly stood out in my U.S. Supreme Court and Research Design classes, earning A+ grades through thoughtful and consistent work,” said Luzmarina Garcia, representing the FAU scholarship committee. “She impressed me most with how she connects her academic work to real-world experience, particularly her work in immigration law, which will serve her well as she prepares to complete her degree and return to law school to pursue a career focused on fair and just outcomes. Alexandra brings a rare combination of academic excellence, resilience and genuine dedication to public service, making her an outstanding candidate for the Flippen Scholarship.”
